Details

Prep school teachers identify dealing with parents as one of the most difficult challenges that they face.  The issues are wide ranging, and sometimes appear mutually exclusive.  Performance and participation are each difficult to deliver – to achieve both can be a forbidding challenge.  Team selection controversies can never satisfy everyone, and many parents are slow to recognise that teachers are industry professionals attempting to act in the interests of the child.

The sector will not wake up one morning and the problem of parental intervention in sport will have gone away.  It is therefore vital that schools have robust mechanisms for dealing with the issues that arise, and consider carefully how these can be established.

Morning sessions will focus on how parents can be educated, managed and even delighted through school sport.  There will be a combination of evidence-based science and practical strategies specific to the prep school situation.

The afternoon is dedicated to considering the possibilities for a wider impact of school sport – in developing people as well as seeking to win matches.

This conference is aimed at teachers responsible for sports programmes in prep schools of all types.  It aims to help them address the issues that they encounter, and to challenge them to provide an industry leading approach to this important dimension of school life
