Wellington College Sports Academy offers a unique opportunity for young players to experience intensive coaching in cutting edge skills and strategies, direct from some of the country’s leading coaches. These coaches do not just put their names to the programmes they create: they are at Wellington to coach every child on the course, and to take a close personal interest in the quality of their experience.

The Head Coaches will be joined in delivering their programmes by a team of highly qualified and experienced assistants, including several of the College’s own coaching team. The whole coaching programme will be overseen by Steve Shortland, Director of Sport at Wellington, who is always on the lookout for new talent.

Facilities at Wellington are world class, creating an inspiring environment in which young players can make spectacular progress in a short space of time. Every day finishes with a swim to ease aching muscles, which takes place in the enormous outdoor pool when the weather allows.

Whilst day places are available, the Sports Academy offers a residential experience of high quality. The pastoral programme is under the close supervision of experienced Houseparents: the accommodation, medical and catering provision are of appropriately high standard. It is a great opportunity for young players to be away from home for the first time, or to gain confidence in the boarding environment. There is a full evening programme for resident players.

Sports Academies are suitable for boys and girls aged 10 to 15, i.e. returning to school in September 2012 into Years 6–10.

New this year is a shorter coaching experience – two day non–residential Junior Academies – for young sports enthusiasts who are seeking real coaching, maybe for the first time.
