Following the success of last year’s event, Crista Cullen returns to present a wholly new programme of material for coaches delivering the game from ages 10 to 13. It aims to help teachers establish a sound foundation of the most contemporary skills and strategies and apply them to improving the performance of their players and teams. Crista will be assisted by Mark Gleghorne, England and GB forward, who will present a goalscoring masterclass; they will then combine for a detailed examination of possibilities at the prep school penalty corner.

Morning

  • Stick grips and how to carry the ball 
  • Basics of hitting, slapping and pushing the ball
  • Tactical execution -  pressing and outletting principles
  • Attacking techniques - setting traps
  • Balance in Defence
  • Tackling techniques
  • Specialist skills technique - Drag flicking and Aerials

Afternoon

  • Building a Team Strategy (theory)
  • Goalscoring: 10 practices to improve scoring
  • Penalty corner skills in attack and defence

Crista Cullen MBE

Crista Cullen is one of the leading GB Women’s Hockey players of her generation. In her 13 year international career she won 171 caps, which culminated in a Gold Medal at the Rio Olympics, having won Bronze in 2012 in London. Additionally, she won a silver medal in the Champions trophy, and bronze in Commonwealth Games and European Championship. She was named in the World Star XI, was GB Hockey Athlete of the Year and UK Hockey Player of the Year. In January 2017, she was awarded the MBE for services to Hockey.

Mark Cleghorne
Mark Cleghorne

Mark has made 145 international appearances for England and GB, scoring 42 goals.  He played in the GB team at the Rio Olympics, and has won medals at both Commonwealth Games and European Championships.  He has played Premier League Hockey for East Grinstead, and is currently with Beeston HC.
