Oswestry School is an independent, co-educational day & boarding school, with a 11-18 senior school of c.360 pupils (120 of whom board) and a 4-11 junior school (Bellan House) of c.120 pupils. Oswestry School is seeking highly motivated and energetic sports coaches, preferably hockey and/or football; however, all other sports are welcomed. The successful candidate will be an inspiring, enthusiastic and qualified coach who will play a significant role in the Sports faculty through their vision for and assistance with the development of the sports programme in both the junior and senior schools and contribute to the wider life of this forward-thinking and rapidly evolving independent school. Our sports coaches will be expected to bring knowledgeable, engaging and productive sessions for our pupils as part of their games programme. The vision is to drive the standards of performance of our A and B teams of all ages forward.
The successful sports coach will join a team of teachers and coaches of individual sports who work closely together to provide a well-balanced, aspirational and forward-thinking sporting programme, ensuring consistency in pedagogy and outreach across the faculty. They will assist with games lessons and coaching across a number of different age groups. They will also work with and support a wide range of staff including internal and external coaches and teachers involved in our co-curricular programme who will need guidance and support. There will be an expectation to immerse themselves into our full fixtures programme during the week and on the weekends. Another significant element of this role will be to strengthen and further develop club links in their sport in order to enhance player development and pathways.
The role requires and involves the following;
•Relevant coaching qualifications or equivalent experience
•Coaching and running teams
•Officiating as appropriate
•Assisting experienced subject teachers in sporting situations
•Coaching groups in specialised topic areas
•Being involved in after school and weekend fixtures
•Being an integral part of the school community
•Experience of teaching and coaching to children and young people
•Good communication skills
•An ability to work on your own initiative
•An ability to work as part of a team
•The willingness to drive a school minibus will be essential
