Kingston Grammar School is a leading day school for boys and girls aged 11–18 in South West London. Founded in 1561, it is one of the most successful co-educational schools in the country and has a long tradition of developing individual talent and encouraging high aspirations. The successful candidate will be an inspiring sports professional capable of commanding both respect and affection amongst students, staff and parents. They will be a recognised industry expert with undisputed credibility and charisma. A close awareness of the landscape of independent school sport and its issues will be essential.
The Director of Sport will be able to build and maintain close relationships with the world of sport beyond the school at both a local and national level. There will be an important outreach role in support of the school’s reputation, student recruitment and the School’s charitable mission.
The logistics of a wide-ranging programme are complex. It is important that the appointed person can establish robust systems and processes to ensure that the programme runs efficiently, and its many diverse components integrate smoothly. This will require a combination of administrative capacity, diplomacy, flexibility and a willingness to maintain a high profile at all sporting occasions. The Director of Sport will be a calm and efficient presence at the centre of a complex pattern of physical activities.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an enthusiastic sports professional. The successful candidate will have experience of working with young people and of building a culture of sporting achievement. Previous experience of independent schools and their expectations is desirable though not essential. Ability to coach to a high level in at least one of the School’s principal sports is important.
