In association with
Hockey at Under 13 and below is played 7-a-side. This is the stage at which a sound foundation of basic skills and game understanding is established. Although many of the techniques are similar to the full game, the tactical implications of a smaller and differently shaped pitch demand an alternative approach. The Mini game also allows opportunities to introduce tactical dimensions that will continue into the 11 a side game, such as new strategies for long corners, hits around the circle and the self pass.

Matt Taylor is the current Head Coach of Nottingham University, who won the BUCS Gold Medal in 2015. He was previously Head Coach of Beeston HC in the Men’s Premier League, winning three Championships between 2010 and 2014. Prior to that, he was coach of the Cannock Ladies’ side, winning promotion to the Premier League in 1009. He is a former England international, and won several Premier League titles with Cannock HC.
