From September 2013, schools have to identify and share how they spend their, ring-fenced funding. Ofsted has strengthened the coverage of Physical Education and sport within the 'Inspectors’ handbook' and supporting guidance so that both schools and inspectors know how Physical Education and sport will be addressed in future as part of the school’s overall provision.

The funding must be spent on improving the provision of Physical Education and sport for the benefit of pupils so that they develop healthy lifestyles.

Maintained schools and academies must publish, on their website, information about their use of the Primary Physical Education and Sport Premium allocation by 4th April 2014 including:

  • the amount of grant received
  • how it has been spent (or will be spent)
  • what impact the school has seen on pupils’ Physical Education and sport participation and;
  • attainment as a result, to help to ensure that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles

Working closely with school based professionals, the Association for Physical Education & CfBT have responded to their requests for support and guidance.

Using the guidance provided by Ofsted the two organisations have developed a new, easy to use resource. It provides invaluable advice for using the funding effectively, support schools to establish a baseline of current provision, generate an action plan, and evidence impact. This resource can then simply be uploaded onto your school website.
