Recommended Bronze Award Locations

by

In the last issue of the PALOES newsletter we asked readers where they preferred to run their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme Bronze Training and Assessments.

Here are some of the replies we had:

tweeted - bronze expeds in South Hams (training/prac) +E.Dartmoor(Bovey Valley), give nice progression through and up to Silver for us...

Votes also came for the Clwyd hills. There’s a great network of really quiet minor roads and footpaths around the Llandegla moor which provide an appropriate challenge for that level.

On the eastern side of the Lake District National Park there is a great area. It is easily accessible as is 5 minutes off the M6 at junction 39. Many will know the section of the Wainwright Coast to Coast from Shap to Kirby Stephen. It’s a good low level and yet a relative wilderness experience. Some great camp sites. Came from .

The Yorkshire Dales is busy preparing for the Tour de France in July, so that may well not be the time to visit. But the area between Ingleton and Hawes, and Hawes and Dent is well-suited to this level of groups. There is no need to go to any of the ‘three peaks’, in fact the lower level footpaths are drier and the navigation required at the right level.

Let us know if you want any more information about any of these venues and we can put you in touch with the teacher who recommended them.

And, keep the recommendations coming!
