Introducing and Developing School Basketball

This is an introductory course intended to enable teachers to understand the game, to teach Basketball lessons and to coach teams of lower ages and abilities. It is suitable for PE teachers without a background in the game and also those coaching school teams at lower ability levels. It will provide a range of skills and strategies, together with ways of practising and developing these with young players. Teachers will also be introduced to the Rules and the ways in which they can be applied confidently in the school setting.

- Developing the basic skills: footwork, dribbling and passing
- Shooting: lay-up, jump shot, free throw and improvised shots
- Skills, drills and practices
- Individual and team defence
- Game play ideas from 1v1 to 5v5
- Introduction to Rules and refereeing

Course runs 10am – 3.30pm. Prices include refreshments, lunch and resources. In the event of you needing to cancel a place on a course, please note we require ten working days' notice.

Matthew Pitkin
Matthew Pitkin is currently the Assistant Coach of the London Lions Women’s team. Matt was the former Women’s Basketball Head Coach at Loughborough University and the Leicester Riders between 2009-2017; during which, Matthew won five national championships and would go on to be named the Great Britain U16 women’s National Team Head Coach in 2017.
